GHIBERTO, Luciana y SOZZO, Máximo. Confinement within confinement: Modes and dinamics of solitary isolation in men and women prisions. Delito soc. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.41, pp.109-155. ISSN 0328-0101.
Solitary confinement is one of the paradigmatic situations in which tortures and ill-treatment are produce, not only through physical aggression but also through the inhuman conditions that inmates are submitted during the isolation. The present article is the result of an empirical investigation in two prisons of Santa Fe city, in which we analyze the forms and conditions of solitary confinement, comparing a woman prison with a men prison in the same scenario. On one hand, we describe the deterioration of living conditions that solitary confinement produces for the inmates living in the isolation cells for a certain period of time; and on the other, we explore solitary confinement use in its variable modes as a relevant resource in the construction of power relationships that takes place and criss-cross the prison world.
