Abstract
GUALA, Natacha. Women's correction: from religious reformatory to contemporary prison. A case study. Delito soc. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.42, pp.49-74. ISSN 0328-0101.
In this article I intend to analyze some aspects of contemporary prison's regime through which it's possible to identify some continuities between the discourses and practices of religious reformatories and current penitentiary treatment. This institutional "hybridization" produces a particular type of penal control, ambivalent, contradictory and strongly attached to the sex-gender-sexuality dimension of the women who are under surveillance. From a case study base on field research carried out in Santa Fe's (Argentina) women's prison, this analysis is a contribution to the reflection on the complex articulations of meaning that sustain women's contemporary punishment and correction, making visible the images surrounding women's criminality -both in and out of prison- and gender stereotypes existent in Argentinian contemporary society.
