The aim of this paper is to analyze the early woodworkers’ organizational experiences in Buenos Aires city, between 1889 and 1910. While mutual associations and friendly societies emerged, woodworkers formed different union forms to improve their working and living conditions, in a context marked by demonstrations and several strikes that were named by the public opinion as the “social question”. This text identifies, firstly, what kind of divisions existed within the workers’ group (given the different trades within the industry) and give a global description of the wood industry world. In second place we examine the forms of labor struggle and its organizational results.
