Abstract

ULLIVARRI, María. La huelga azucarera de 1923 en Tucumán: Trabajadores, política y demanda de derechos. Estud. trab. [online]. 2018, n.55, pp.122-155. ISSN 0327-5744.

The sugar strike of 1923 is one of the most studied events in the history of the working class of Tucumán, a province of the north of the Argentina. Most interpretations delve into the political question. However, I find it very difficult to think of a strike only as the result of a conflict between a governor and the owners of the mills. That is why I prefer to search a different way to find a more encouraging result, starting with the question of subjectivity and the agency of the workers themselves. In this article we will emphasize the analysis of this conflict of a labor and political nature, to try to think on the one hand, the difficulties of the construction of labor policies in the rural area. And, on the other, the ways in which sugar workers articulated political ties and how they built their demand for rights.

Keywords : Sugar industry; Tucuman; Strike; Politics.
