As part of the international statistical agenda, data production on labor disputes or collective labor conflicts entails multiple research traditions and approaches in connection with: 1) the context in which disputes are recorded (labor relations system, productive structure, labor market characteristics, etc.); 2) the aims of the statistics and; 3) the methodological aspects (information sources, definition of the unit of analysis and indicators). This paper compares the different ways in which statistics on labor disputes are elaborated by government statistical agencies. The research contributes to generate updated information on fundamental methodological aspects that, in most cases, is not easily available. Likewise, the comparative approach enriches theoretical and methodological discussions related to the study of this type of statistics by raising new research questions concerning collective action. The analysis is based on the comparison of official statistics produced by Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Regarding the dimensions proposed for this study, authors consider: information sources, the unit of analysis, labor conflicts indicators involving strike and non-strike disputes.
