The study addresses the process of recomposition of the formal working class in Argentina during the period 2003-2015 and explores the recent experience of workers since the rise of Macri. We define metallurgical workers in the Buenos Aires suburbs as a case study. Two axes of analysis frame the study in the concerns about heterogeneity and social inequality. The first axis refers to the social characterization of metallurgical workers. Here we return to topics and questions from segmentationist studies and class analysis. The second axis refers to the representations about their class identities and their levels of solidarity respect to the most disadvantaged social strata. The analysis is focused on contexts of transformation of the accumulation model and the orientation of State intervention. The empirical basis of the study is in-depth interviews with 20 metallurgical employees of the Buenos Aires Conurbation and available secondary sources (EPH-INDEC and ENES-PISAC).
