Editorial

Opening this new volume of the Latin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis we would like to share with the Latin American sedimentological community some news about the journal.
One important issue is that, at the beginning of this year, the Latin American Journal of Sedi-mentology and Basin Analysis received the renewal of its membership at the Núcleo Básico de Revistas Científicas Argentinas (NBRCA), after a very positive evaluation performed by a scientific committee on behalf of the Centro Argentino de Información Científica y Tecnológica (CAICYT-CONICET). The NBRCA includes those Argentinian journals that accredit international standard of peer revision together with a widespread circulation and the recognition of the scientific community, assuring to both the authors and the readers that the papers published in the LAJSBA are high quality works. This accreditation allows the inclusion of the LAJSBA, among other high-quality journals, in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO).
An important aspect in the promotion of the Latin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis was the decision of starting the updating of those volumes of the AAS Revista, former title of the LAJSBA, in the SciELO website. At this moment, the volumes 10 and 11, published in 2003 and 2004 respectively, are now fully available online at www. scielo.org.ar. In the following months volumes 8 and 9, belonging to 2001 and 2002 in that order, will be uploaded. Geological database queries have shown an important increase in the visibility of the journal worldwide after the inclusion of the LAJSBA in the SciELO website, so we believe this is a suitable way of promoting the main publication of the AAS.
The last noteworthy news is that the LAJSBA has satisfactorily completed the implementation of the editorial web portal (Portal de Publicaciones Científicas y Técnicas-PPCT), supported by the CAICYT-CONICET. Since the beginning of this year all new manuscripts are electronically submitted at http://ppct.caicyt.gov.ar while the related editorial processes, in charge of the editors, Editorial Bureau, reviewers, authors and layout editors, is now fully developed through this portal. This implementation is other important step in the evolution of the LAJSBA, being good to remember it carries no extra costs to the publisher (Asociación Argentina de Sedimentología). Any suggestions from the current users of the PPCT-LAJSBA on how to improve the electronic editorial process are highly welcome.
To conclude we would like to encourage, once again, sedimentologists from all Latin America to submit their contributions to the Latin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis in order to sustain the consolidation of our much appreciated journal.
