Instructions to authors

Scope and policy

Peer Review Process

The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept or reject the work, in accordance with the scope and editorial standards.

When the evaluation is positive, the contributions undergo a double-blind peer review system (the anonymity of authors and reviewers are preserved).

Two specialists in the area are chosen to judge the quality of work.

The criteria includes:

  1. Compliance with the stated purpose.

  2. Methodological Rigor.

  3. Quality in the development of the subject.

  4. Style, terminology and clarity of exposition.

  5. Bibliography.

Plagiarism Policy

The policy of the journal is to publish original works, written by those who declare their authorship, and unpublished works, which may not have been previously published in any print or electronic medium.

Given the limitations of automatic plagiarism detection programs with the Spanish language and in order to respond to broader aspects that are recorded as plagiarism practices - including translations, fragmentation of results or "salami slicing", duplication, among others - the journal implements a specific procedure to prevent it, namely:

  1. At the time of submission of an article, authors are asked to state that the article has not been previously published or sent to other journals for evaluation. In addition, they are asked to state that they are following the Author Guidelines, which state that the articles to be applied for must be original.

  2. When it is received -and before starting the evaluation process-, internet search tools are used, in order to track other works of the authors and compare the title, fragments of the abstract, the methodological section and the results of the article presented for revision, in order to corroborate the originality and avoid plagiarism practices.

  3. When sending it out to evaluate peer reviewers, evaluators are also asked to pay attention to possible indicators of plagiarism, as they are the ones who know the sources and literature on the subject.

The magazine considers the practices listed and explained below as plagiarism:

  1. Direct plagiarism. You commit this type when:
    a. There is omission of the authorship and what has been taken from another text is not indicated with quotation marks.
    b. Minimal changes are made to the text of another (sentence structure is modified, lower case is substituted by upper case or vice versa, synonyms are used, etc.) and it is presented as original.

  2. Plagiarism for the improper use of paraphrase is commited when:
    a. Although authorship is noted, the original text is reproduced with a few changes that are not paraphrases.

  3. Complex plagiarism using a reference is committed when:
    a. The original authorship reference exists, but the pages of the source are indicated with inaccuracy.
    b. Paraphrasing in which long texts are summarized, but with little or no indication that they correspond to paraphrases.
    c. Absence of quotation marks in words and phrases of the original text that are reproduced textually.

  4. Plagiarism with loose quotation marks is performed when:
    a. A textual quotation continues to be reproduced once quotation marks have been closed or previous sentences have been omitted from the same quotation.

  5. Paraphrasing as plagiarism occurs when:
    a. There is paraphrasing and the original source reference is not noted.
    b. The paraphrasing is continuous and extensive, no material is added that allows interaction or enriches the information, even though the source is mentioned.
    c. Academic works - which require original thoughts and critical reflections on other people's points of view - become texts that do not surpass the repetition of other academic texts.
    d. Paraphrased passages are not clearly identified as such.
    It's not considered plagiarism when:
    e. It doesn't dominate the work of the writer.
    f. It is used to allow the author to interact critically with another person's views.
    g. The argument of the original text is rewritten in different words.

  6. The "self-plagiarism" or recycling fraud, is committed when:
    a. The appearance of a job is changed and presented as if it were a different job.
    b. The indication that the work is being recycled is omitted, i.e. that it is a previously published work but with corrections or new additions.
    It's not considered self-plagiarism when:
    a. Previous work is the basis for a new contribution, and key parts must be repeated to explain and defend the new arguments.
    b. The author believes that what he has already said cannot be said in a better way for the new publication.
    c. The repetition does not exceed 30% of the original work.

Ethical Aspects and Conflict of Interest

The publication of Educación física y ciencia is the collective result of the work and effort of authors, editors and evaluators who are interested in the development of science for social and cultural development. For this reason, and within the framework of the open access policy promoted by the National University of La Plata, the journal will not charge authors any fee for publication, and articles will be immediately available in Open Access.

The editors of the magazine undertake to avoid the existence of any conflict of interest between the actors involved in the production. Any text submitted will be evaluated for its intellectual content, avoiding interference in the process of the authors' ethnic or national affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political philosophy. Similarly, external evaluations that place any personal position on the quality of work will be rejected.

Authors and evaluators are asked to state in advance any relevant conflicts of interest they may have, so that they can be taken into account when allocating evaluations. If any conflict should arise after the publication of the contribution, if necessary, there will be a retraction or manifestation of the fact.

A "conflict of interest" is a situation in which an individual's personal interests diverge from his or her responsibilities for the scientific activities he or she undertakes, whether as an author, reviewer, or member of the editorial board, which may influence his or her critical judgment and the integrity of his or her actions. Conflicts of interest can be:

  • Economic: when the participant (author/reviewer/editor) has received or expects to receive money for activities related to the research and its dissemination.

  • Academics: when reviewers or editors adhere to a particular methodological or ideological trend in such a way that they may be biased to evaluate the work of others. For this reason they are asked to express themselves beforehand.

  • Personal or work relationships: when the participants (authors/reviewers/publishers) have some kind of friendship, enmity or work relationship. To avoid this, editors should take into account funding sources and author affiliation to choose evaluators who do not belong to those specific circles.

International guidelines

Based on an analysis of the specific problems of scientific publishing practice, various international organizations have taken on the task of agreeing on criteria and generating guides and documents that provide support to both editors and authors, among them:

The editors of the journal will consider guidelines and guides that have been agreed upon at the international level to solve the specific problems of scientific publishing practice. The instructions given by COPE | Committee on Publication Ethics will be taken into account. Guidelines from other internationally recognized organizations such as the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, the Council of Science Editors and the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) will also be considered | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Authors, researchers and reviewers are invited to familiarize themselves with the international guidelines linked to ethics in publication, specifically those linked below, in order to avoid faults that could be generated by their ignorance.

Data Availability Policy

Educación Física y ciencia promotes the transparency and reproducibility of the published research so that other researchers can replicate the studies described in these articles, either to corroborate or refute the obtained results, under the provisions of the Argentinian National Law No. 26.899 on Open Access Institutional Digital Repositories.

To promote the reproducibility of results, the journal requires authors to make available the data sets used to perform the research described in their articles without restrictions. In case of limitations for ethical or legal reasons, authors shall indicate how other researchers should proceed to access such data.

Any information and research data sent to Educación Física y cienciashall be uploaded and made available in SEDICI, the repository of Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), to increase compliance with the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (it should be possible to find and access data, which should be located in systems capable of interoperating, and people should be able to reuse them in other investigations).

Authors are encouraged to store data in SEDICI, or any other research data repository (for example, FigShareMendeley Data or Zenodo), before sending their contributions to the journal. When the article is submitted, this would allow simply mentioning the URL where the research data are located.

Authors are requested to use formats that maximize data accessibility and reusability (for example, regarding tabular data, using a spreadsheet is suggested). If necessary, it is recommended that, together with the data, they publish the algorithms or pipelines that must be used with the data for their correct interpretation.

Digital Preservation

ducación Física y ciencia uses PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). This system allows OJS journals safeguard their contents by permanent archives of journal for conservation and restoration purposes.

Educación Física y ciencia  issues (from 2005 to 2016) were preserved by  PKP Private LOCKSS Network (PKP PLN).

Guidelines for authors

Educación Física y Ciencia (online, ISSN 2314-2561) is a quarterly electronic scientific journal edited by the Departamento de Educación Física of the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. It publishes original and unpublished articles, in Spanish, Portuguese and English (as long as they are the mother tongue of the author), on topics from Physical Education and other related scientific disciplines, seeking to contribute to the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.

The journal, which began to be published in 1995, is aimed at researchers, teachers, managers, officials, professionals and students of Physical Education. Its contents are available online in the institutional repositories of the UNLP ( SEDICI and  Memoria Académica ).

All contributions are submitted to a double-blind evaluation system (external evaluators). The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept or reject the works, in accordance with the thematic scope and strict compliance with editorial standards. The opinions expressed by the authors are their sole responsibility.

The acceptance of the manuscript by the journal implies the non-simultaneous submission to other journals and editorial bodies and the non-exclusive transfer of the authors' economic rights in favor of the editor, who allows reuse, after editing, under a License Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International . You can share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform and create another work from the material), provided that: a) the authorship and the original source of its publication are cited (magazine, publisher and URL of the work); b) are not used for commercial purposes; c) the same license terms are maintained.

The transfer of non-exclusive rights also implies authorization by the authors for the work to be deposited in the UNLP institutional repositories and disseminated through the databases that the editor considers appropriate for indexing, with a view to increasing the visibility of the publication and its authors. Likewise, the magazine allows and encourages authors to deposit their contributions in other institutional and thematic repositories, with the certainty that culture and knowledge are a good for everyone and for everyone.

1. Presentation of the manuscript

Educación Física y Ciencia accepts unpublished works in Spanish, Portuguese and English (responding to the Open Call). All manuscripts must be prepared in a word processor with a standard format (A4 page size, 2.5 margins, 12 font, one and a half spacing). The recommended maximum is 20 pages, which can be extended to 25. Manuscripts that do not meet these limits will not be accepted. The requested format responds to the requirements of Ediciones de la FaHCE who uses, for Educación Física y Ciencia, the XML-JATS Marcalyc marking system developed by RedALyC.

2. Cover

to. Title in the language of the text : it should be representative of the content, if possible no longer than 10 words. If necessary, a subtitle of similar length can be added. [In reviews, it is the complete Author Review and Title with all the editorial data of the reviewed book.]

b. Author's name and surname
Institution workplace with the name displayed ORCID
email
if you have one (if you don't have it, you can manage one at ORCID.org )

[In case of multiple authors, repeat these lines as many times as necessary]

A bibliographic notice of each of the authors of no more than six lines may also be included, which will be included in the OJS profile of the authors. In the case of self-registration, each author can update his or her own profile.

Clarifications about the place of work, institutional belonging or institutional affiliation of each author:  The in-extensive name of the institution in which they carry out their activities (place of work) will be indicated along with the country. Use a comma (“,”) between one piece of information and another. Example:

Faculty of Humanities, National University of Córdoba, Argentina

If the institution is double or triple dependency, use a hyphen (“-”) between one and the other. Example: Institute xxx, (UNCo - CONICET), University of Comahue, Argentina.

In those cases where an author must indicate more than one place of work, a slash (“/”) will be used to separate one occurrence from another. Responding to the design and publication system of the FaHCE Journals, this information will be indicated on a single line. Example:

Faculty of Humanities, National University of Córdoba / Faculty of Communication, National University of Tucumán, Argentina.

Researchers and scholarship holders linked to the FaHCE UNLP must indicate as institutional membership:

Research Institute in Humanities and Social Sciences (UNLP-CONICET), Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences, National University of La Plata, Argentina

To register complementary information, such as membership in specific centers or projects, titles or positions achieved, the OJS platform that hosts the magazine allows you to complete a biography when registering as an author. These data will be visible in the “Author Biography” on the cover of the article in OJS. Each autxr is invited to complete and update the registry. Likewise, authors who have ORCID can keep their personal data updated on that site.

Financing or sponsorships: In the body of the article or text to be published, information can also be added with the subtitle “Financing” at the end of the text, before the notes. There the support received for the financing of the activities will be recognized along with the project identification number, the financing organizations/agencies, the source/s of funds and any other information that is necessary to communicate in this regard.

This cover will be the only one sent to the evaluators, therefore the authors, their affiliation and address will be omitted.

4. Summary and keywords

On a separate page, a summary of up to 200 words will be written in the language of the text. For original research articles, research notes and case studies, the objective, methodology, results and conclusions must be indicated in the summary, duly summarized. For essays, review articles or state of the art, the main aspects discussed in the text will be included in the summary.

Keywords: Each one begins with a capital letter, up to 5 words, separated with commas.

Abstract: Summary in English. In the case of texts in English, a summary in Spanish must be presented.

Key words: (up to 5 words separated with commas, each with initial capital letter)

5. Text

Body of the article: Running paragraphs. Subtitles can be incorporated. For notes, use the “end note” command and place them after the spelling signs; They will be used only for clarifications to the text and not for bibliographical references. For appointments, follow the instructions detailed below.

In the case of incorporating tables, graphs or images, identify them with numbers and always reference or mention them in the text. Take into account the format of the publication when generating a table: keep the reader in mind, and to guarantee the visibility of the data recorded, do not design tables with more columns than can be seen in a vertical A4 sheet format.

Sections: For original research articles, the text must be divided into four sections: a) introduction, b) methodology, c) results and discussion and d) conclusions.

to. Notes at the end: they must be automatically identified with a superscript number without using parentheses and after the spelling sign, in Arial 9. Notes will not be used to include only bibliographic citations.

b. Citation rules

Verbatim quotes in the text:

  • If they are up to 40 words, they are indicated in quotation marks. If it is more than 40 words, it is written in a separate paragraph, indented further from the left margin, without quotes, separated from the previous and subsequent text with a space.

  • Author, year of publication and page of citation must be indicated: (Author's last name, year of publication, page and page number on which the cited text is found). Example: (López, 1996, p. 125). If the author's last name is mentioned in the text, only the year can be stated, e.g. and number: Example: López states in his book (1996, p. 125).

  • If a work has two authors, both names are cited each time the reference occurs.

  • Never use the footnote or the endnote only to indicate the bibliographical reference.

  • It is recommended not to abuse textual citations.

  • Review your text before sending it for evaluation and confirm that all citations are correctly referenced in the bibliographic reference list. Also confirm that there are no references in the list that have not been mentioned in the text.

- Bibliographic citations in the text: The author's last name, or the initials of the institutional author, will be indicated in parentheses, followed by a comma and the year of publication. For example (Mannino, 2005), (AAHE, 2006). For seven or more authors, the first one followed by et will be indicated. to the. (Golubic et al., 2008). When two or more works are cited, they are separated by a semicolon (Kaplan, 2008; Neuberger and Counsell, 2002; Buela Casal et al., 2006). When author and year coincide, it will be distinguished with a letter (Zeng and Zummer, 2009a,b). It is recommended to cite or reference only those texts that are significant for the argument that the author of the text presents. Remember that it is not necessary to reference developments or expressions that are already outdated or obsolete.

All references cited, and only those cited in the text, will make up the References list located at the end of the work under that title. Only those used in the development of the article will be recorded in accordance with the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) 6te. edition or higher. APA citation style can be found in the Guide to Citations and References . Examples are detailed in point 7.

6. References from documentary sources

They must be cited with the data that is available according to the APA standard in the development of the text. In the case of using unedited primary sources, or where standard references are not possible, a section will be added before the bibliographic references called “Documentary sources used”. All the data available to identify the source will be recorded there. Example:
Author, AA (Day, Month, Year). Title of the material. [Material description]. Build name (classification number, box number, file number or name, etc.). Name and location of the repository.

Complete reference examples:
Bernárdez, PR (1550-1776). Indigenous guaca exhumation licenses. [Paper – 211 Boxes-775 Folders]. Hidden Assets: SCS. PR.16. (Box 17, folder 2, Folio 3). General Archive Fund of Colombia.

Criticism, Roll 114, Box S/Nro., from 8/24/1930 to 9/21/1930, National Library.

7. Bibliographic references

For the writing of references, the Yearbook of the Institute of Argentine History accepts the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA). APA citation style can be found in the Guide to Citations and References . Most magazines that have a digital version have SUGGESTED QUOTE that you can copy. Many reference portals have the “Export Citation” tool that allows you to copy the citation in APA format and paste. Below we provide a summary:

If the authors have more than one reference, the last names must be repeated, not hyphens. Repeat author entries are ordered by year of publication, placing the oldest first. In the case of an author with more than one entry per year, use the letters a, b, c, etc., in lower case immediately after the year within the parentheses. Remember to point it out in the development of the article.

8. Other elements in the text

a. Tables: They will be numbered consecutively and with Arabic numerals. Reference will be made to them from the text (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Each table should have its own title at the top. The column title will also be indicated in each column. Tables should be no longer than one page in length. If they absolutely require it, they must be divided into more than one table, repeating the headers in each of them. The design of the table must consider the forms of visibility (vertical, rectangular) of the magazine on the different supports. If the material is not your own source, the note must give credit to the original author. Remember that they will be viewed in the 3 display formats (PDF, HTML, ePUB) and that readers will access them from both PCs and mobile devices. If the author prefers, they can incorporate them as an image instead of a table so that they do not suffer modifications in the layout.

b. Figures: All illustrations (photographs, diagrams, graphs, drawings, etc.) will be designated with the term figure and will be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. The title and legend will be included in the text. Figures must be presented in JPG image files with no more than 120 dpi. If the material is not your own source, the note must give credit to the original author. Remember that they will be viewed in the 3 display formats (PDF, HTML, ePUB) and that readers will access them from both PCs and mobile devices. If the author prefers, they can incorporate them as an image instead of a table so that they do not suffer modifications in the layout.

c. Acknowledgments: not required. If necessary, they will be included at the end of the text, before the bibliographic references and should be brief. Authors are responsible for requesting permission to mention the names of people or organizations who, in their opinion, deserve thanks.

d. Abbreviations: Abbreviations will be clarified the first time they are used in the text, for example: United Nations Organization (UN). From this clarification onwards, only the abbreviation will be used. It is recommended not to abuse them.

e. Units of measurement: the units of the decimal metric system will be used. The units will be indicated with the symbols accepted by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (http://www.bipm.org/en/bipm/), for example: cm, m, h, g, kg (centimeter, meter, hour , gram, kilogram). Note that they are symbols and not abbreviations, so they do not end in a period.

f. Numbers: every three digits the period will be used as a separator (2,284, 13,527). The comma will be used to indicate decimal numbers (17.2 or 3,543.8). It is recommended to indicate only one decimal (35.7 and not 37.68).

g. Highlighting: except as indicated in this section, highlighting (block capitals, underlining, bold, italics, etc.) will not be accepted. The only cases allowed are the following:

Section titles (Introduction, Methodology, Results and discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Bibliographic references, or others): bold font.

Section titles: regular font.

Term that is defined in the text, neologism or term in a foreign language: italics.

9. Submission of the manuscript

Shipments must be made by registering on the web platform and uploading the article in doc, as indicated in the steps to follow in the system. Add all the data you can. Submission must be made exclusively  by registering as an author on this platform and uploading the article in doc, docx or rtf as indicated in the steps to follow in the system, uploading complete author and submission data. If you have technical problems sending, contact: publicaciones@fahce.unlp.edu.ar.

Clarification for submissions from more than 1 author : enter all the authors who participated in the work with their complete data in the "collaborators" item.

Text, tables, and figures will be sent in a single document. For example: Pérez_2010.doc. If necessary, the editors will contact the authors to request figures, tables or images separately.

10. Editorial process and evaluation system

All manuscripts sent online are received by the Editorial Secretariat, which is responsible for acknowledging receipt to the author.
The works are preliminarily evaluated by the Editorial Board in order to establish whether the topics fit the scope declared by the magazine and whether they comply with the editorial standards. If you do not respond to this requirement, the contributions are rejected. When the first evaluation is positive, two expert referees in the area are chosen to judge the quality of the work. The evaluation system adopted by the journal is double blind (the anonymity of the authors and evaluators is preserved). The criteria that the referees follow in the evaluation are the following:

a. Fulfillment of the stated purpose
b. Methodological rigor
c. Quality in the development of the theme
d. Style, terminology and expository clarity
e. Bibliography

The possible results of the evaluation are four, namely:

a. Accepted without changes.
b. Accepted subject to modifications (it does not undergo peer review again, it is evaluated by the Editorial Board in order to verify changes).
c. Rejected offering the author the possibility of modifying and resubmitting it, subject to new evaluation.
d. Rejected (the manuscript is returned to the author, together with the judges' opinions).

When the result is "c", the manuscript is returned to the author to consider the changes suggested by the referees. The sending of the new version must be completed within a period of no more than thirty days. Then the work is put to the consideration of the referees. Up to two rounds of evaluation will be admitted. When the evaluations are opposite, the editor will be responsible for sending the work to a third referee.
Once the work is accepted, the authors will be informed of the volume and number in which it will be published. The magazine does not charge any fee for publishing in it.
The Editorial Secretariat is in charge of reviewing the style and formal aspects of each work. The Editorial Board controls the evaluation process and changes to evaluations whose opinions have been "b".

For cases not reflected in this summary or other doubts, consult the  Guide for citations and references FaHCE Editions .

IMPORTANT:

The name of the document will have the last name of the first author, underscore and year of submission. For example: Pérez_2018.doc.
