Resumen

PEREYRA DOMINGORENA, Lucas. Cerámica experimental con materias primas del sur de los valles Calchaquíes (Noroeste argentino). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp.239-250. ISSN 1850-373X.

The results of experimental work performed as part of a larger research project aimed at characterizing the ways of making pottery within Formative societies of the southern Calchaquí valley, Northwestern Argentina, are presented. The main objective of this work is to elucidate the technical behaviors involved in pre-Hispanic pottery manufacture by comparing archaeological and experimental pastes. Five experimental series were made with clay and sand collected from the southern Cajon valley, the western slope of Aconquija mountain, the Santa María valley and the south part of Quebrada de Las Conchas. Briquettes were prepared by combining different proportions of these raw materials, which were subsequently cooked in an electric kiln at various temperatures to allow for heat control. Samples cooked to 650° C were compared with fine and ordinary series archaeological pottery. Petrographic and comparative work carried out on both types of ceramic pastes reinforced the hypothesis of the existence of technological styles of pottery making during the first millennium AD in the study area.
